Sujit Choudhry together with other recognized constitutional law scholars has taken a step to settle the conflicts in Catalonia. In the open letter, they advised the two governments involved will have a dialogue concerning their conflicting constitutional issues. The Catalonian president is required to secede from Spain. The constitutional scholars proposed that a referendum is carried out for the will of the people to prevail. The Prime Minister, Rajoy, of Spain, was advised to let the people of Catalan express their will peacefully because they have a right to autonomy.

The scholars maintain that a referendum is the best bet to settle the ongoing conflicts. Also, Sujit Choudhry and scholars prefer to have the people from both sides of the divide express their rights and ambitions for Catalan. The governments from both Spain and Catalonia in equal measure have a responsibility to carry out a peaceful and orderly process to ensure a settled dispute. This will honor the European Union’s foundational ideas. Spain has been negligent towards attaining the aspired stability in Catalan by preventing a referendum. It has caused a tension increase in the region.  Additional article on
