Sujit Choudhry Speaks on Behalf of the People of Catalan and Spain

Dialogue between two parties who are disagreeing about a certain issue is the best way to solve problems and leave everything at peace without disputes or violence. Sujit Choudhry and other leading constitutional scholars wrote a letter to both Catalan and Spanish government urging them to make a dialogue to solve their current crisis. These scholars requested the president of Catalonia Mr. Puigdemont to express that he is dedicated to the task of seceding from Spain by arranging a referendum that confirms the will of the Catalonians.

In the letter, which was authored by Sujit Choudhry, they asked the prime minister of Spain Rayjoy to accept the fact that secession is what Catalans want and to stop handling the issue in a repressive way .They expressed that is not the way it is dealt with in the international law. Mr. Rayjoy ways would lead to abuse of human rights and violate their freedom of doing what they want. They asked him to accept the results of people votes of Catalonia becoming an independent nation. The government of Spain has destroyed the democracy in both rulings making it impossible for Spain to rule the region without causing violence.

It is believed that the only way for Spain and Catalonia to solve the problem is to go through a constitutional dialogue putting into consideration the wishes of the people of Catalonia. Nevertheless, it is still not clear if the Catalonians will be favored by secession. It is also clear if they will be cooperative to the constitutional alternatives. The Scholars states that most of the Catalonians are supposed to agree with the alternative solutions and that the government needs to determine that it was in a democratic, fair and accurate means.
