Sujit Choudhry is serving as the Director of the Center for Constitutional Transitions. It was on the 10th of July that he joined some of the top constitutional experts in Kiev to discuss the semi-presidential constitutional system of the government of Ukraine. The group discussed the constitutional challenges being faced by the system currently. This workshop was hosted by the major think tanks in Ukraine. These included the International Institute for Democracy and Electorate Assistance, along with the Center for Policy and Legal Reform. There were several other intergovernmental organizations that support sustainable democracy across various countries around the globe.
Sujit Choudhry maintained that it was a privilege for him to discuss executive powers in front of these esteemed experts. He also stated that democracy in Ukraine is not stable. This is due to the concentration of the power of the presidency, the electoral system of the legislature and the weakness of the political parties mainly. He was joined by several other eminent people like Thomas Sidelius of Dalarna University. Next was Sumit Bisarya from International IDEA. Vladimir Vasilenko was the representative on Human Rights from Ukraine, and Sergyi Holovatyi represented the constitutional commission of Ukraine. Others included Viktor Musiaka who is the president representative in Supreme Court.
